Cleverness is absent. But casts are present.

I wanted to do a Hello, Dolly! post because it was such a lovely movie, but there are about 2 pictures available online and I can't find screencaps. But I found a picture of Louis and Barbra and Gene and I was like, "Cast pictures are awesome!" It always gives me the warm fuzzies when casts are doing happy things together.

Disney loves bubbles, no lie

Yeah, you know it, Disney loves bubbles. I was thinking about it, and it's true. They just absolutely adore animating bubbles.


Simply lovely.


I'm not a huge fan of Cinderella the character or the film, but Sing Sweet Nightingale is one of the most beautiful pieces of animation Disney's ever done.

Fringe this week was seriously awesome and Smallville fills my heart with joy. Clark and Lois being all PDA is too much for me.
Hello Dolly! came today also, huzzah, and then next up, An American in Paris! Guuuh, I'm such a one track pony. I only watch sci-fi dramas, and 50-year-old musicals. I should broaden my horizons.

Tea and Treats

All the books I read are very fond of detailed descriptions of tea and coffee and dessert and nice starched tablecloths.















Hipsters with their piercings and ugly pants came into Moretti today and asked if we had gluten-free bread. I wanted desperately if they were from Soho or something and got lost trying to get to Dumbo. Why in the almighty names of Juno and Tofu were they in Marine Park?
I am so tired I want to die.
Not really. Just until I stop being tired.

Books In January, 2010

So I decided this year to keep a list of all the books I read, because I have in the past, forgotten all the good books I read, because I'm just forgetful or something. Anyway, so in this past month I read 11 works of fiction. (Yeah, fiction only, that yucky non-fic/school stuff doesn't count.) And this is in order of how I read them.


1. Howl's Moving Castle, Diana Wynne Jones
I've already talked about this book way too much here, so I'll just say, go read it, and you won't regret it.


2. The Magician's Elephant, Kate DiCamillo
She is one of my favorite authors, and this, her newest books, was absolutely magical.


3. Ethan Frome, Edith Wharton
Edith is another of my favorite authors, and Ethan Frome was beautiful, but totally different from her other books.


4. Castle in the Air, Diana Wynne Jones
I adore all fantasy books set in an middle-east thousand-and-one-nights sort of world, and this one delivered.


5. Graveyard Book, Neil Gaiman
Absolutely, completely charming and heartbreaking. And the illustrations were beautiful too.


6. House of Many Ways, Diana Wynne Jones
Once again, read these books, you won't regret it. It has magic food and a purple villain. And Twinkle.


7. Tiger Rising, Kate DiCamillo
Not my favorite of her books, but altogether lovely nevertheless. The musty motel setting was just gorgeous.


8. This Side of Paradise, F. Scott Fitzgerald
This book sent like fifty different emotions surging through me at one. It was absolutely delightful, hopeless, hysterical, romantic, magical, etc, all at the same time.


9. The Demigod Files, Rick Riordan
Not actually a full book, but I read it, it counts. Oh Clarisse, never change. The Persephone story was the best.


10. Fire and Hemlock, Diana Wynne Jones
The most amazing part about this book is how as Tom grows older, Polly begins to see him as younger. It's ridiculously good writing.


11. O Pioneers, Willa Cather
It's like Little House or Skylark, but for grown-ups. It's beautiful, and really tiny, but very powerful.

As you can see I have an unhealthy emphasis on fantasy written for kids. Oh well. And now that I've read four Diana Wynne Jones books, I just have to say, she writes the most a-freaking-dorable romances ever, so subtle and perfect. Also she never tells you what's going on till the last two chapters.
Anyway, I can't wait for Percy Jackson! Even if I end up going to see it with with a load of squealing 11-year-olds. My little sister has decided she's coming with me... and bringing all her friends, lol!

One Week.

One week. Seven day.


No, but seriously. It's been such a freakin' long hiatus, I forgot it would ever end. I've been looking at this poster for months, but I suddenly realized- Feb 2? I'm not ready.


I've been watching so many X-Files this year, I need to somehow get Black Oil and Hybrids and Samantha Clones and Scully And Mulder out of my head...


And get Smoke Monster, Black Rocks, Taller Ghost Walt and Desmond And Penny back in my head.


I forgot how to think in LOST language. But it's almost time to get LOST again! We're going BAAAAAACK!!!!


And this show is going out with a bang. That much is sure. No matter how much you or I might have hated last season, it doesn't matter anymore if Juliet is really dead or if they're resetting time, or if Kate and Sawyer are going to shack up again or if Locke was always that dude wearing black.
You know what?
I STOPPED CARING.


LOST was the first show I ever watched. I was 12 when I started watching. It was the first television show I'd ever watched real time, on tv, every Wednesday. Remember the good old days of season 1? Oh, the innocence.


So what if in the following 4 years I had a fling with Terminator, Doctor Who became my best friend, I loved and lost Life, used Smallville as rebound-guy and eventually found my soulmate in The X-Files?


LOST was my first crush. And I think things are better now that I'm not in love with it any more. Now I can sit back, wish it well, and enjoy the ride. Because it will End Awesome. Maybe not how you wanted, but even when this show sucked, was it ever Not Awesome?


It's the last season premiere ever. EVER. Let's just love it and enjoy it while it lasts. Lets drain this moment to the lees, get on the Internet, get involved, make bigger charts and more complex data sheet, decorate more cakes and type up even more possibly imperative quotes- lets HAVE FUN.
