A day in my life

Ah. Home from work. What a nice feeling. Here is what I have planned for the afternoon.

Candlelight Yoga. I get so cramped up from standing all day at work, I need this simple routine to get myself moving again.

Coffeeee. Because I need it.

We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson. This book is so magical and FREAKY so far in such a delicious way. Hopefully I can finish it this afternoon.

German review. I haven't started German 3 yet and I don't want to forget everything, so I'll turn on German music and review my conversational tense and my dative adjective endings. And I'll read the German news.

Do dinner related things.

Write my stupid story. My sister and I promised each other we'd get through first drafts so... onward. And of course, this image is hilariously inaccurate. I type my stories, all stretched out in front of my computer.

Watch X-Files and get all sentimental about how cute William is and how happy Reyes and Doggett are and the fact that after tonight we'll only have... 8 hours worth left...

GO TO SLEEP. I never quite woke up this morning.

Peace out. Busy week ahead of me. Brighton Beach, Wall Street and the ferry with Amanda, a sleepover, work two more days, Maureen's 21st birthday on Friday, white water river rafting in Delaware on Saturday.... I am tired just thinking about it.

Books in February, 2010

I was going to do a good-bye Olympics mega post or something, but that will have to wait for tomorrow. So, books I've read in February? Not quite as many, I did a lot of rereading this month, but I still read some excellent stuff. So- all the fiction I read, in order of how I read them.

1. Magic Flutes, Eva Ibbotson
My first Eva book, other then her kid stuff. Beautiful writing. I love Maxie and Heidi! Tessa was a bit over the top, but it was lovely anyway.

2. Rapunzel’s Revenge, Shannon and Dean Hale, Nathan Hale

The story was adorable, but what really made it was the illustrations. Hale, Hale and Hale outdid themselves, can't wait for the sequel.

3. The Pearl, John Steinbeck

So, I tried Steinbeck... and was not entirely impressed. The "pearl" symbolized something important, then people die.

4. The Ruby in the Smoke, Philip Pullman

I'm so glad I gave Pullman a go! Exciting, crisp writing, gorgeous setting of course. Loved it.

5. Company of Swans, Eva Ibbotson

Beautifully written, as Eva's books always are. Harriet was a sub-par main character, but it was lovely anyway.

6. Unexpected Magic, Diana Wynne Jones

The fact I spend the first 16 years of my life without this woman is appalling to me. Her stories truly are unexpected magic.

7. Brideshead Revisited, Evelyn Waugh

I was like Fitzgerald, with a point. It showed in an amazingly realistic way all the different "faces" of Christianity. It was gorgeous, I could talk about it for days.

8. Up the Down Staircase, Bel Kaufman

It was like a Kate Klise book... but for adults! All the different types of kids and writing styles within the book were awesome.

9. The Shadow in the North, Philip Pullman

Almost done with this one, the bad guys are so creepy and excellent, it's a great sequel to Ruby in the Smoke.

Edit: I finished it! Horray! BUT KILLING FRED AND LEAVING HER WITH A BABY WAS NOT NICE PHILIP, OKAY?

If you haven't guessed yet, they were all good, so read them!
The Canadian Anthem is stuck in my head. This was a good Olympics, I can't believe they're not going to happen again till I'm 20! (Summer Olympics don't count. No ice dancing or hockey, thus they're boring.) I am so happy Canada won the gold in hockey! I'm not what you'd call a big sports fan, but heaven help me, I though I was going to die of a heart attack during overtime. I swear I've never been in more of a panic in my life. Call me a traitor to my nation, but the Canadians deserved it.
Dear HTML,
Stop hating me,
Sarah

Temporary Fandom Alert.

So I realized yesterday that I have nothing to obsess over. I usually have a movie, show, actor, book, or author who I go gaga about for a month or so, and then it dies down and then I pick someone else. But it's been over a month since I laid my eyes on an X-File, and new Howl and Sophie book shan't appear out of no where. And as much as I love LOST, it's a bit old-hat. My passionate love affair is long over with that show. So for the time being, I'll adopt skating as my fandom. (Evan Lysacek anyone?) But since I've been watching so freakin' much ice dancing lately, I'll just spam you with Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir, 2010 gold medalists.

They are so cute, I can't even. They've been skating together since she was six and he was eight, or for 14 years.

They've won a gazillion Nationals and World medals, and I feel rather ashamed for not knowing who they until last week.

Look at them, all happy they won gold. (The fact Canada and the USA took gold and silver from those Russians makes me laugh.)

If this is my fandom for the time being, I assume it's only right to go into stan mode. "Omg gurlcrush and so sexy and ilu bbs now go have skating prodigy spawn ktnx."

They are perfectly in sync, and really elegant, but at the same time, they've got energy and passion, something that lots of skaters don't seem to have.

So cute. The end.

BONUS: Hi, Charlie and Meryl. You're cute too of course. But cut your hair Charlie, you look like a football player.

Okay. You know that 14-page paper? I just found something out today. Editing a 14-page paper is even harder then writing one.
