The Inscrutable Pair

I am going to post twice today.
First, here is a poem I found whose last lines have been knocking about in my head for a few days now. This might be the coolest thing fandom has created... after the original music inspired by Reese and Crews.

The Inscrutable Pair
by Penumbra

'M' was for Mulder, so moody and mully,
'S' was his partner, lugubrious Scully.
It was all quite inexplicable.
Frequently, something loathsome was done to a cow.

Oh, the moon shone bright on Agent Mulder,
and on his partner...
They soon learned not to drink the water,
Et o ces voix d'enfants terribles chantant la rigamarole!

Scully had her saws and trays,
Mulder had his little ways...
Details concurrent were illusions,
But William's advent drew conclusions.

Sing, O Muse, of truths ambiguous
Bore us not with plots contiguous
Conclusions unreconciliatory
Were the best part of the story.

Happy Thursday, here is me, wishing you well. My day's been good so far then again I haven't done anything since I got home from work so that is subject to change.

Taken from a 30 Day Meme

I stole a 30 day meme off Tumblr, because instead of a favorites meme it was an 'Whatever tickled your fancy' one. And it looks coooll. Of course, I only took the first ten days.

Day 1 — A fictional book
My currently read: Though the Darkness Hide Thee, by Susan Wise Bauer. It's really scary and fascinating and oddly homey. I like it.

Day 2 — A non-fictional book
History of the Ancient World, by Susan Wise Bauer. I really, really like Susan. She is my role model for life.

Day 3 — A fanfic
I'm reccing two fics, how dangerous of me.
Promises, Rory/Amy, baby!Rory, baby!Amy, mentions of Eleven, but you never actually see him.
Selections, Mulder and Scully oneshots through season 7. Skinner and the Gunmen cameo.

Day 4 — A song that makes you cry
The Scientist by Coldplay. Every time I hear it, even though I don't actually cry, I get that sinking sad feeling.

Day 5 — An art piece
Girl with Curls, Salvador Dali. I love surrealist stuff, but honestly I think I like Dali's saner stuff better.

Day 6 — A quote
Every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don't always soften the bad things, but vice-versa, the bad things don't necessarily spoil the good things and make them unimportant. -Eleven

Day 7 — A talent of yours
Reading books with large mugs of tea. It takes a lot of talent to pull something that hard off.

Day 8 — A hobby of yours
Making mac'n'cheese. I think I've eaten about 7 boxes worth the last 2 weeks. It's definitely turning into a hobby.

Day 9 — A recipe
I have never actually made this, but omg it looks like heaven!! Coffee Cake.

Day 10 — A website
io9, Jezebel and Gawker. Three sites in affiliation with each other. One for science and sci-fi, one for news and media from a feminist point of view and one for news, gossip and general weirdness.

Requiem = AWESOME. LIKE REALLY AWESOME. Have I mentioned my girlcrush on Marita yet? I'm ready for some Scully
angst and Skinner guilt next season. Muhaha.

In which I cross a line in geekdom and rec fic

I love fanfiction. It's my happy place. Although I have some rules for myself (I don't read AU, WIPs, R or "Adult" fics) I still manage to find lots of awesome stuff. Here are my 5 favorite fictions. There is some kissing and language but if you've ever seen a PG-13 movie, these ficlits are not going to scar you for life.

And Astoria takes the ring and throws her life, her name, her reputation, to the winds and smiles as she does it.
My favorite fic. It's so cannon in my head, I can't imagine Astoria any differently. Draco was wonderfully written, he's such a hard character to write; the entire Malfoy family is dangerous territory. But this fic was perfect and lovely and should be published. (3 chapters)

They don’t plan a lot for the last iCarly, even though Spencer spent six hours redialing the Woodland Park Zoo (trying to get a lion or “at the very least, man, a penguin. Can you not lend me one little penguin?”).
I have read more iCarly fic then any other fandom. It's a small fandom with only a few characters, so it's easy to weed out the bad ones. I love Seddie, but I never felt they were something that could happen on screen. I like how this fic is distanced from the show, but still hysterical and in character.

When she asks, Dani says “He’s a good cop” and “He’s my partner” and Davis wonders if she would have said the same thing about Jack Reese all those years ago.
Life fic is hard to find, I think I've read it all. (Including an X-Files crossover which I never finished because it made no sense.) Life fic has a tendency to be non-romantic because the show is so unromantic. This fic is just a great look into Davis' head: cannon, believable, beautiful.

Martha! You met Shakespeare. William Shakespeare. Surely you can go one night without washing your face, right? Right.
Three ficlits for the three companions of Ten. Rose's is beautiful, although more romantic then I imagined them to truly be. Donna's is hysterical, and Martha's is divine. The voice used in Martha's made my jaw drop. It was so accurate, I feel like it was in the show.

It had seemed an almost trivial thing to buy him, except she isn't sure she has anything trivial left when it comes to Mulder. There are fathoms to this, whole dimensions curled and folded between them.
The dialogue in this was spot on, which for the X-Files is pivotal, and the writing was beautiful, and it was romantic without being sexy or anything because Scully and Mulder are PRUDES. It's by the girl who did the Demons vid to Sufjan, so you know it's good.

I spent like an HOUR this morning putting St Anthony rolls in bags. So tired. I need coffee and meat and a nap. I love 90's music.
