Guilty Pleasure Series Part 4: Smallville

I watch Smallville... and love it! I have lowish expectations, so I'm never disappointed. Also I can stoutly ignore all manner of plot holes or cheesy lines and it's all worth it, cause Oliver is gorgeous and Lois/Clark bantering never gets old. Oh, and also because Mercy has one of the best wardrobes ever. I suppose it is a bit of a guilty pleasure, because it's not that good, and also because people always find it amusing that I watch it, but whatever. You know why? (shallow teenager alert.) Pretty.

Oliver is prettty. There is no denying that. Also, he is blond and brown eyed and has a cleft in his chin and therefore would fit into my family perfectly.

The clothes is preettty. Every character has their own color schemes and styles; the fashion is so meticulous on Smallville!

Lois' hair is pretty. I'm not sure if I can add anything to that.

My favorite ship is prrreeetttyyy. Tess and Oliver are like the coolest, the only problem is they're not really cannon, she's evil, he's insane and guilt-ridden, they have a dysfunctional relationship, and they're never going to get it together. But I'm enjoying it while it lasts.

The superhero costumes are pretty. The colors on this show never fail to amaze me. But most of the shows I watch are depressing sci-fi dramas filled with dark alleyways and boring fashion.

Lois and Clark are incredibly pretttyy. They are a good height difference.

Chloe and Jimmy are preetty. Even when they're beat up and stuff.

The whole CAST is pretty.

I do believe that this is enough reason to watch. My sister fails to understand the power of pretty, but hopefully you will.

Hats need a comeback

I love hats and wish they would become mandatory again. They were such a nice trend. And actually, I own three of them. I pretty much wear them, but it's nice to own them, just in case one day they become fashionable again. I'm waiting patiently!

I adore cloche hats. I fell in love with them years ago, when my family was watching Jeeves and Wooster. Madeline and Angela and Stiffy had many of these. I own one, but it's a little too big for my head. Pity.

This is like a fancier cloche, I found it on Etsy.

This is a vintage felt hat from like, the 30's.

Every girl needs to own a hat like this. It should be a law.

Okay, maybe this isn't exactly a hat, but it's beautiful!

I had a beanie like this, only less awesome. But my head got to big for it. I gave it to my little sister.

I should go have breakfast now. Tra-la.

The many incarnations of Coraline

Coraline by Neil Gaiman is one of the coolest, scariest children's books out there. Sadly I didn't read it until last year, but it perfectly captures the thoughts of a 8-10 year old girl. Coraline was made into a graphic novel as well as a movie, and each incarnation of the story is beautiful and scary in it's own way.

This is the book, which in and of itself is beautiful enough.

The copy of the book that I own has amazing pictures by Dave McKean.

There is also a graphic novel, which has spooky pictures, but in the end is considerably less scary then the book.

And of course, there is the movie Coraline, which came out in March. It's stop-motion and
gorgeous. The story was fleshed out a lot for the movie, but the extra plot was added seamlessly.

And then there is... fanart! Come on, you saw this coming. Emmy C did a beautiful drawing of movie!Coraline. (click to see it nice and big.)

And here is another random, completely adorable Coraline and Wybie I found on DeviantArt!! (rachelo)

So go read/watch/thoroughly enjoy Coraline in all it's incarnations!

Guilty Pleasure Series Part 3: Pop Music

Although I pride myself in having exemplary taste in music, sometimes there's nothing like a little pop music to motivate and invigorate. Here is a random selection of some of my favorite pop songs to listen to when I'm grumpy.

Starstruck by Lady Gaga. This song is infectious, you just can't be melancholy listening to it! I tried hard to hate Lady Gaga, but it didn't work.

SOS by Rihanna. SOS was my first Rihanna experience, it has such a catchy and manic beat!

Beautiful Liar by Beyonce and Shakira. This song is scary, and the best pop songs are always the scary pop songs.

I Don't Wanna Be in Love by Good Charlotte. Ah, memories! This was one of the big hits summer 2007, when I started listening to the radio.

Sexyback by Justin Timberlake. I don't think this song needs an introduction.

Boom Boom Pow by The Black Eyed Peas. Like with SOS and Beautiful Liar, this song is scary. And slightly manic. But also terribly catchy.

Yeah, that's right. I listen to the radio... and enjoy it. Hopefully this does not make me a bad person.

Colors: Red

I thought it would be fun to do another colors post. I just went through all my previously saved images and picked a few red ones.

Random cheery vintage ad for random cherry vintage kitchen appliances.

I wish berries weren't so expensive. They are some of the best fruit.

Sikozu Svala Shanti Sugaysi Shanu.

I believe this is raspberry iced tea.

Avert your eyes from Justin Timblerlake's geek glasses. Jessica Biel's dress is all sorts of gorgeous.

I have a thing for yaks. This yak is in Tibet. I also have a thing for Tibet.

Farewell and have a nice day random-person-reading-my-blog! My day will probably be boring. I had tea this morning, but I don't think it worked. I might take a nap.

Fanart, I've missed you

Whenever I love something new I go straight to DeviantArt and search for fanart. I haven't had anything new to search for a long time though, and there are only so many Doctor Who and Harry Potter artists out there. So when I realize that I was sort of in love with Mulder and Scully, I ran straight to the source. This is what I found.

This one is awesome, clearly. Poor Scully. The artist named it, "We Developed a Good System." (TheCrowchan)

I love this one because you can totally tell it's Mulder and Scully, just by their backs. It's called "Anywhere With You." (tangerine-skies)

The Lone Gunmen, Cancer Man, random alien in a jar, the fluke monster... and some things I don't recognize yet! (renton1313)

Backstory time! I have an alien key chain that I won at a Chuck E. Cheese type place a little over a year ago and I named it Mulder's Alien, which seemed very appropriate. Now look closely at the drawing. MULDER HAS AN ALIEN KEYCHAIN OF HIS OWN. Perhaps he named it Sabe. (MysticRobin)

Look out! They mean serious business people! (The-batcomputer)

This one was done with watercolors on card stock. How do artists do it? I wish I understood. (Alix1981)

The artist named this one, "Roles of Mulder and Scully." She had a point. (Tatriana)

This one uploaded tiny, but click on it to see it bigger. It has some beautiful detail. Notice Scully's little necklace. (wheresmytea)

They are so cute together, it just kills me. I'll leave you alone now.

Good pie is hard to come by

Pie, in the end, is my favorite dessert. More then ice cream, more then cookies, more then chocolate or muffins or banana nut loaf or pudding or layer cake or donuts or any other deliciousness. But good pie is hard to come by. Of course, home made is the best, but our oven is DEAD and it's too hot anyway. Pie in restaurants is good, but sometimes it's been sitting too long. Pie bought in a grocery store is pretty good, but not exactly fresh. Considering it's my favorite dessert, I don't have it very often.

Key Lime Pie

Pumpkin Pie

Cherry Pie

Pecan Pie

Peach Pie

Pie combines two of the best thing on earth. Fruit and carbs.

Summer Reading

Sometimes a season (summer) is not behaving the way you want it to behave. For example, it's wet and cool, but at the same time really humid, so it's not like you're spared from sweating all day. If so, it's easy to submerge yourself in a totally fake but completely awesome version of said season (summer) by reading seriously seasony (summery) books.

Dandelion Wine by Ray Bradbury. Sort of science fiction, sort of fantasy, very nostalgic, totally summer.

Criss-Cross by Lynne Rae Perkins. A lazy, meandering summer story about self discovery in a small town.

Mother Cary's Chickens by Kate Douglas Wiggin. Charming, old fashioned, romantic and so summery!

Hope Was Here by Joan Bauer. Takes place during many seasons, but is summery none the less. Lots of good food, very comforting.

I'm really bad at writing blurbs about books, but trust me, they are all very good!

Consider anything, only don't cry

How excited are you for Tim Burton's new movie, Alice in Wonderland? Cause I'm pretty excited. I don't know how I can wait until March 5th, 2010.

But it's no use going back to yesterday, because I was a different person then.
-Alice

Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast!
-The Red Queen

Consider what a great girl you are. Consider what a long way you've come today. Consider what o'clock it is. Consider anything, only don't cry!
-The White Queen

It's no wonder you're late. Why, this watch is exactly two days slow!
-The Mad Hatter

I love Alice in Wonderland. Which isn't surprising, because everyone loves Alice in Wonderland. But that doesn't mean I love her any less.
