Leighton Meester. This is mainly because she is beautiful. It is also partly because she has a nice singing voice, but mostly because she is beautiful.
Team Tardis '10. Matt Smith, Arthur Darvill, and Karen Gillan. Best hipsters. They seem really close and I think that bleeds into the show. It makes their characters a bit more likable, a bit more real.
Keanu Reeves. It was a year of Keanu. First of all I watched The Matrix, Speed, and Point Break, all staring him this year. Plus the Sad Keanu meme which made history all over the place. So much cooler than Strutting Leo!
Neil Gaiman and Amanda Palmer. The coolest kids ever. This year I read more Gaimain, I fell in love with Amanda's albums, and most of all, I fell in love with them as a couple.
Anna Kendrick. Besides being a totally adorable actress and human being, she is also a great fashion icon. (To me at least.)
Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir. Ice dancing has always been a favorite of mine, and they are just so perfect and amazing in everything they do, plus they're beautiful and gooey.
Sufjan Stevens. He deserves the Human of the Year Award, solely for putting out an EP that played the length of an album AND a full-length album. And for living in Brooklyn, where the cool kids live. (And for being bffs with Kanye West and Zach Levi... IN MY HEAD.)
I really am loving being 17. It's a rather orderly age. I feel much more together than 16. But when I turn 18 the whole cycle will begin again cause I'll be a baby adult instead of a grown-up teenager. So basically I like being 17 a lot. Here are some random awesome 17-year-olds.
Rachel Seybolt. Actually, Rachel is not like the average 17-year-old. Her family is dead, she was raised by a crazy pastor and then moved in with her father's best friend, Charlie, who'd been put in jail for her father's murder. Complicated.
Cassandra Mortmain. She is, in a way, the quintessential 17-year-old. I Capture the Castle is her diary and it's amazing how 17 is 17, whether in 1920 or 2010.
Kitty Bennet. Life is hard for Kitty. Her younger sister keeps showing her up, her older sister is a bore and her much-older sisters are married to freakin'-rich-hotties. Poor dear.
Jules Paxton. I just really like this movie. One thing that is obviously important about a modern 17-year-olds life is their search for a college or job or whatever. Basically 17-year-olds have to worry about the future for the first time.
Knives Chau. Poor Knives is very 17. She is like the outward manifestation of the feeling that all 17-year-olds who run in older circles have. She is well liked, but just a bit left out.
Jenny Millar. One of my favorite things about An Education was how well Carey played the age. There is a really distinct 17-year-old emotion that she captured.
True Girl is finished. I finished a first draft of my story. The X-Files are finished. Farscape is finished. My friends are back in college and therefore my fun is finished. I finished my money too, having fun with those friends. MY LIFE IS FINISHED. Okay no, but I am really bored and seriously looking forward to school giving me something to do other then staring at books and not actually reading them.
Two current, one historical and two fictional.
Susan Wise Bauer. She has been my number 1 role model in life since I was in middle school. She's written history and curriculum and fiction. She's a pastor's wife and a homeschool mom, an author, historian and a professor at a college. Basically she is the Renaissance woman. She's such an inspirational example to all girls who want to have a family but also feel as if there is a career that is calling to them. Also she's really funny, which is something that I find awesome because she is not just brilliant, she is also personable. This is her blog- it's awesome. Lastly I met her, and basically told her she was my idol.
Dana Scully. I can't put it into words but I feel like Scully is the best of what any one, man or woman, could be. She exudes character qualities. I could start reading off from a list, and they'd all apply to her. (Yet she is still very real and not MarySueish at all. Good writing, what are ya gonna do?) Her loyalty and dedication to Mulder and to what she believes is right, even when she has a hard time believing or accepting it all, is inspirational. Plus dedication. Hard work. Decisiveness. These are the most important qualities.
Abigail Adams. If you ever feel like the Biblical term of "help meet" is limiting or lame, then look at Abigail, one of the most amazing women who ever lived. She was brilliant and spent her life supporting her husband and a shared cause. I'm hesitant to say she "knew her place" but she was content to doing her share of the revolution from the home where she could best serve John. Society was very different then obviously, but I can't imagine any life better than one supporting a man like John Adams. "Remember the Ladies."
Marilynne Robinson. Author, Christian, theologian practically. Her essay entitled Family was so brilliant I want to put the entire thing in my "quotes" section on Facebook. Basically everything she writes is amazing. She is an award winning, PHD holding scholar and author. She gives me hope for the future of Christianity in America, because her books are critically acclaimed and widespread. She is just an amazing person, and what Christian teenage girl would not want to emulate her?
Hermione Granger. I am jealous of her work ethic. She in an inspiration to me when it comes to rising to the occasion. That is something I have a very hard time doing. I am the person who will wait for someone else to volunteer. Hermione is always ready, always prepared. She went into the wizarding world a complete outsider. She didn't listen to anyone, didn't care what they thought of her. She mastered basically everything, saved the world and took over the wizard legal system. I mean, how can you not look up to her?!
As a child I wrote a bit. As a teenager I have written exactly two short stories. And now I have embarked on the journey of writing (and perfecting) a real story. I think it'll be like 30 pages. What have I gotten myself INTO?!
This is going to be slightly different from my normal blog posts... but three of my favorite songs all have a very similar message and I thought it'd be fun to post them together. They're about letting go and the need to have real, and sometimes scary emotions before you can truly live, love or be happy.

Went to see Eclipse. The Deathly Hallows trailer made me cry, I think it needed a standing ovation. Eclipse itself was spectacular. It was so lovely my eyes could hardly keep up. Lots of Alice/Jasper moments! And With You in my Head was used so amazingly. The scene with the SLEEPING BAG made me think of this X-Files scene: "Mulder: I was told once that the best way to regenerate body heat was to crawl naked into a sleeping bag with some body else who’s already naked. Scully: Well, maybe if it rains sleeping bags, you’ll get lucky" But it was great. And then I ate an amazing, life changing sandwich which made we want to cry. The end.
