A ~girly~ tag

Why have I felt so girly lately? Like I wanna run around with roses in my hair and eat Nutella on a bagel and wear sundresses and plaster my wall with pictures of nature.

favorite artist:
I do not know is this is musician or art artist. So I'll do it twice. Favorite musician is Sufjan Stevens.

favorite artist:
For art artist... Paul Klee. (Followed closely by Lichtenstein and Hopper.)

favorite poem:
I don't have one? So many of them are REALLY sad. So here is a poem my sister posted on her Tumblr that is really sweet and not sad. Breakfast Song by Elizabeth Bishop. I have this weird thing for sunny domesticity.

favorite era:
Other then the the 1180's and the 1770's I think 1890-1930. Yeah.

favorite tumblr:
http://plenilune.tumblr.com/ And the weird thing is one of my friends knows this girl IRL and I didn't even know.

favorite instrument:
OBOES. I love wind instruments. And pianos. And bass guitars.

favorite flower:
I love coffee colored roses so much.

favorite scent:
The autumnal smell of rain and decay. Le sigh.

favorite country:
CANADA. I have a dream of moving up there to a little cabin, completely undisturbed. I'll make coffee cakes every morning and write books and paint with oils. I'll have two cats (Dana and Dorian) and a big dog (Fitzgerald) and a tank of goldfish.

Happy 17th birthday X-Files! You are just a few months younger than me.
Life is dragging today, I feel like staying awake is a very conscience effort on my part.

Soup and sandwiches and sexy coffee

Are you hungry in Manhattan? Do you want to be reasonable but you can't stomach fast food? Are you tired of Starbuck's limited selection? Are you dubious of just walking into restaurants? Then you need to try some of Manhattan's popular upper-scale fast food chains.

Dean and Deluca. It's one of the nicer (and therefore more expensive) of the bunch. They have great quiche, scones and baked goods. Their sandwiches are pre-made and run about $9 but they are amazing. There are some vegetarian options. Their tea selection is stellar.

Pret a Manger. They have great sized salads, amazing soup, pre-made sandwiches and yogurt and stuff. Best part? The soup is only $3! They also have sushi and a really nice dessert collection.

Au Bon Pain. Sadly there are only a few in the city but Au Bon Pain is one of my favorite places to eat. They have fresh sandwiches and salads put together on the spot, good coffee selections, soup and crusty bread. But of course what they are famous for it their massive selection of baked goods and pastries!

Cucina and Co. Going to Herald Square? Then go the Cucina and Co. They have amazing hot food for affordable prices, pre-made sandwiches, a salad bar, sushi and dessert.

Europa Cafe. $6.25 for a massive wrap and I'm a happy camper. They have a huge selection of sandwiches and wraps on all sorts of bread. They have pre-made salads and a salad bar, little pizzas and quiches, the whole nine yards. The coffee is good too.

Hale and Hearty. Soups and bakes goods and sandwiches on godlike bread, also salads if you're not so much of a bread person. The soup is really reasonable, the sandwiches are a tad over-priced.

Pax Wholesome Foods. Pizzas and sandwiches and wraps and all that good crapolla. It's great for kids too, they have some more "normal" options. Plus with $6.75 soup-and-half-sandwich deals you really can't go wrong! Also offers all those specialty coffees we love so much.

ASDFGHJKL; Another Sufjan album set for October, this is maddnesss! I finally got to listen to Avalanche this summer. And then he goes and releases All Delighted People, almost giving me a heart-attack and now he goes and springs this upon us? Sufjan you are a god, I swear.

Manhattan

I'm an East Side girl and terribly fond of neighborhoods populated by rich, old people. Behold, my favorite Manhattan haunts.

14th Street/Union Square. Featuring Books of Wonder, Pret a Manger, a massive Barnes and Noble, an Anthro, Banana Republic, J Crew and Free People. Also a park, great Halal food, Whole Foods, a big AE, two craft stores and ABC Home and Carpet. It's very relaxing and casual.

The Financial District. Featuring Trinity Church, Au Bon Pain, many old historical sites, South Street Sea Port in one direction, Battery Park City in the other. The Fireman Museum. It's fun to go here and march around as if you had a purpose... but actually just meander and get lost.

The Upper East Side. Featuring The Met, a beautiful Barnes and Noble, the Lexington Diner, Alice's Teacup, Jamba Juice and of course... CENTRAL PARK! Although I never dare go into the stores it's always fun to look. And wander. And imagine. (Being a rich old lady. Yeahhh...)

Columbus Circle. Featuring Whole Food, Borders Books, Subway, a pretty park thingy, this mini art gallery, Sephora, William-Sonoma, Bouchon Bakery and Dean and Deluca. Also United Colors and Bebe which are fun to look at. This is by far the best place to waste time and money in Manhattan. It's one-stop fun, you never have to leave the building!

5th Avenue from Central Park South to 40th Street. Featuring Saks, Bergdorf Goodman, FAO Schwarz, The Apple Store, the former Disney Store, St. Patrick's, Crabtree and Evelyn, Hale and Hearty, Rockefeller Center, the main branch library, Barnes and Nobles... Etc, etc, etc forever and ever amen. Quintessential NYC if you ask me.

Going to Target and Starbucks in an hour... ♥

Forget your troubles, c'mon get happy.

"Forget your troubles, c'mon get happy, you better chase all your cares away. Shout hallejulah, c'mon get happy get ready for the judgment day."
Lately I have been very whiny. So I think that I should make a list of things I am thankful for. Some of these are VERY SERIOUS and some are just things that I honestly am thankful for no matter how dumb.

I am thankful for my angelic ball of sunshine and shenanigans, Lady Jane Gray. She loves me enough to wake me up at 4:30am every morning to make sure I am not late to work. It's not her fault she doesn't know that I only work three days. She hates posing for photos...

I am thankful for iCarly because I instantly respond to its joyfulness. Like the reaction I have to coffee or brownies.

I am thankful for a church where, even though I can't get involved, I want to get involved. It took long enough.

I am thankful for my mom and everything she has done for me... every book recommendation, every carefully picked curriculum. She taught me from a young age that Jane Eyre and Star Trek are important. She likes to monologue about politics. I'd be pretty boring and dumb without her. The above picture is an accurate representation of our relationship. Totally.

I am thankful for Pratt Saturday Morning Art Classes. Pratt looks like Hogwarts and it's such a lovely way to spend the autumn and I learned a ton there. It's clear now I'll never to to art school, but Pratt is just enough that I don't mind too much.

I am thankful for living a subway ride away from glorious Downtown Brooklyn and a slightly longer subway ride away from Manhattan. I don't know what my life would be without my monthly museum trips.

I am thankful for Hermione Granger and Dana Scully who remind me daily that hard work, determination, dedication, integrity, resourcefulness, decisiveness and a ton more scary character qualities are what it really takes to be a Strong Female (of) Character.

I am thankful for having a job I don't hate at a young age which is teaching me all about good work ethics. I am thankful that my coworkers and the majority of the costumers are really terribly nice people who I am glad to know.

X-Files guuuhh I have been rendered speechless OKAY? Doggett and Reyes = too happy to exist on this gloomy show. Mulder and Scully = too perfect to exist in this dark and loveless world. Agent Harrison = too much lip-liner to exist in 2002.

More Memes

Memes are everywhere and I can not resist! Seven questions stolen from a 30-day Tumblr meme; GO.

1. The meaning behind your blog name.
It's a quote from JK about Luna. "Luna is the one who is prepared to believe a thousand mad things before breakfast." That quote is a reference to Alice in Wonderland as well, and I want to do about 1,000 posts here, and I write the blog posts while drinking my morning coffee, so it's appropriate on multiple levels.

2. If you had to get a tattoo right now what would it be?
"Ich will glaube" That being, I want to believe, translated into German. I'd get it done in my own handwriting. It would be a tattoo that represented my fandom, my heritage, my interests, myself and in a weird way, my religion. On my wrist or my shoulder blade...

3. A habit you wish you didn't have.
I used to be a nail biter. I killed that habit, and now I have very long, natural, beautiful nails (as people who know me can vouch for). But after killing that habit I started chewing on my hair ends. Ugh.

4. Song lyrics you want to share.
I'm crawling through landmines, just to feel where you've been. There's gauze over my eyes but you're leaving this trail. I'm crawling through landmines, I know cause I planted them. Under cover of night I put my heart in the ground. Where'd you go? Not so far. Please don't go. Not too far. I found your glove with the leather torn. Five fingers that I'm counting on, smoke signals to call you right here. Oh, my love, my dear.
-Landmines, St Vincent

5. A picture of a place that has influenced you.
Boston. I want to be a Boston person, if I ever fail at being a New Yorker. I love Boston, I spent a lot of time there when I was little, and my parents lived there when they were first married.

6. What was your very first ship?
Johnny/Cilla was the first I got into. Still a ship of mine to be honest. Someone needs to write fic, okay? Not me though. And yes, there is such a thing as a Sons of Liberty play-set. Note picture.

7. One book you want to see made into a movie.
Howl's Moving Castle. And I'd cast Jamie Campbell Bower as Howl and Bonnie Wright as Sophie and it would be acccccurate, and by that I don't mean it will stick to the book to a tee, because I'm not a book purest, but by that I mean that it would not be like the Anime which I was sorely disappointed in.

This morning has been long and lazy. Then I get to go babysit a mess of awesome kids, and then THE PANDORICA OPENS. BE THERE. (Doctor Who episode, for those of you who do not understand the world of Doctor Who.)

Central Park statues post.

I love Central Park, and although the ~Wild North End~ remains a mystery to me, I could walk through most of it in my sleep. The reservoir, the boat pond, and the other boat pond. The little lake at the 57th street entrance, the Ladies Pavilion, The Merchant's Gate Plaza Cafe, and the Ancient Playground with it's hippo sprinklers we were never allowed to go in, curses. But the BEST PART of Central Park, if you can narrow its beauty down, is the random, fascinating, enchanting and mysterious statues tossed here and there. Finding a new one is a triumph, rediscovering an old one is just as impressive. Then again, I've always had something for statues.

The panther on the drive.

These are somewhere in the vague area of Strawberry Hill.

My lovely bear, at the entrance to the Central Park Zoo. (Where I met Martin Landau on my tenth birthday.)

The Mother Goose statue that I can never find unless I am not looking for it.

The Alice statue, which I always seem to find, even when I'm trying to get away from it. Also, this is the only statue that is socially acceptable to climb.

The top of the fountain at the end of the Mall, near the row boating lake.

The beautiful falconer, on the east side of the Mall, that you can't get to without going all the way around.

The little girl fountain wayyyy up north, near the exit of the Garden.

My mother's favorite statue... THE POLISH KING.

Ah Romeo and Juliet, near the Delacourt Theater, obviously.

The Goddess of Victory, at the Columbus Circle entrance.

NETFLIX. Where the frell are my disks? Hurry up now I am serious. Today is St Inigo's Day. He was a hermit in Spain, who was kind and nice and made life better for everyone, because he wasn't like a real hermit. He was like a Nice Old Man. Then he died of natural causes.

Athens, Αθήνα, Athinae

Athens is another one of those cities I've always wanted to visit. The city of my "patron goddess."

Our parked car got hit, one in a 5-car chain-reaction car crash outside out living room window. Woohoo, and thank god for insurance. On to happier things. DOCTOR WHO TONIGHT. Smith is not Duchovy, and it's a Dalek episode, but I'm stoked anyway. Dad played a mean trick on me, saying it was pushed back in favor of the Prime Minister debates. Not funny Dad.
