2 Busy, But I Send My Love

I've got a booked weekend. A house to clean, school to catch up on, a History paper to write, a Halloween party to host, cupcakes to bake, 3 beautiful new hardcover books to devour, a best friend staying the week, a concert to go to... honestly I don't know if I'll be blogging much this week. But have faith!! I'll be back.

di immortales! (part 2)

There just so happens to be another series of books in which the characters scream "di immortales" a lot. It has, admittedly, less then nothing to do with Percy Jackson, but they're equally good and here they are. Betsy-Tacy, by Maud Hart Lovelace.


They are republishing the highschool year books in these SPIFFY new editions!


These two are probably my favorites... although Betsy's Wedding does hold a special place in my heart.


We own two copies of each book, and chances are, come Christmas, we'll own three of each. Cause, duh, my mom, sister and I each need our own copy!


This, oh dearest readers, is Joe Willard. Most perfect man who ever lived. (And he did live, the books are semi-autobiographical.)

Okay. Now go read them. They're not out of print anymore, so you have no excuse. In other news, my books did get to the library yesterday, but I did not quit life to read, I didn't even go get them because it was pouring buckets. I'll go get them today hopefully, but I'm so busssyy! But if I get them tomorrow I'll never have time to read The Last Olympian, let alone all three, before the Halloween Party and my bff's visit!

di immortales!

I've been wanting to do a Percy Jackson post for a week now, but I needed good pictures! Lo and behold, one of my favorite fan artists does Percy Jackson art! http://burdge-bug.deviantart.com/ I'm very fond of her Twilight stuff, and her Harry Potter art is Magnificent and Brilliant (although she has the habit of dressing all the characters like Cali beach bums.) But that is irrelevant at the moment, because she's got Annabeth and Percy spot on, and also because Percy and Annabeth do dress like beach bums.

"Are You Serious?" You all KNOW that this is just the norm of Percy and Annabeth's relationship. He'll make a remark he thinks is all clever and knee-slap worthy (usually is, come to think of it), and Annabeth will react by calling him seaweed brain. Or something.


Poseidon, according to Rick Riodan, who, come to think of it, is never wrong.


Demigod love! It's the perfect representation of Percabeth. All geared up and ready for the fight... or to make out.

If you're not already in love with them, then you have a serious problem.
Today holds little joy for me. School (and an essay), laundry, cleaning and vacuuming, rain... But if my books get to the library today, I'm going to quit life for a while to read. Graveyard Book, Forest Born and The Last Olympian? A little too much awesome right there.

Turtleneck Sweaters

Turtlenecks. Or, a neck sweater for a turtle, if you're Jared DeWhite. (Old school Christian homeschool ghetto inside joke there. If you don't get it, you had a deprived childhood.)
Ahem.
Turtlenecks. I can't live without them in the winter. I either need one of those, or a scarf, or both. I don't wear them for show, I'm one of those people whose necks actually do get cold.

Diane Kruger Is Purty Awesome

She is like my role model (despite the fact I don't want to be an actress or anything lol), and also her fashion sense is amazing, and she's purty and also, I mean, come on, she's Josh Jackson's girlfriend!!


Really nice dress, really nice boyfriend.


One of my favorite of her dresses. It's so classy and dated (in a good way.)


Another one of my favorites. Maybe it's because she has really nice legs, but she looks so good in full skirts!


I know everyone including the Fug Girls (whose world is usually LAW) hated this dress, but it's really nice! It's all Grecian/Roman inspired and the neck is gorgeous.

I feel the need to pimp this, even though no one really reads my blog, but if you happened across this page today while wandering the world wide web, please pay attention.
Two acquaintances of mine are writing/illustrating this awesome web serial Three of Swords. It has a magical little girl, and it's sort of steampunk and sort of fantasy and sort of meta and there are two really hot guys, Tom and Lucien, so feel free to pick one to have a crush on.

BOW its a DONUT

I don't really like pastries and stuff. But donuts? Oh dude. I just can't resist.


Sometimes we make those fake donuts by deep frying biscuit dough and then rolling it in powdered sugar.


Then there are the old standby donuts.


And those delicious glazed cakey donuts, like pumpkin and blueberry.


And of course, classic melt-in-your-mouth glazed.


One that I think isn't respected nearly enough are those long twisty ones.


My personal favorite is a chocolate donut covered in coconut, from Dunkin Donuts. OMG LOOK AT THIS BEAUTY HALE YEAH.

Imma listening to the Fray and being very happy cause my paper was quite painless to write for once. Also, listen to what I found out. In May of 1996 X-Files fans coined the phrase "ship" in regards to Mulder and Scully on a X-Files forum. X-Files fans were the first to have fan forums, fansites and were pioneers in fanfics and fanvidding. I also found out that in spring 2002, Smallville fans first combined the names of a ship in a portmanteau, e.g. Clex and Chark. Later Buffy followed suite, and although it was LOST, with their Jate and Skate, which put "Name Swooshing" on the fandom map so-to-speak, Smallville fans did it first. I am proud to be a member of such epic fandoms. *sheds a tear*

Percy Jackson is making me emo (Laundromats)

For the moment at least. Partly because the fourth book ended very sadly. (Stop fighting Percy and Annabeth, you're making me nervous. And Nico, please stop crying, you're upsetting me.) And also partly because I feel sick and therefore anything makes me emo. Blah. But the Percy Jackson books don't have illustrations and the movie isn't even out yet, so I can't post mad pictures about it. Then I thought I'd post my favorite illustrations from our Greek myth picture book collection. But, you know, I couldn't find any on Flickr or Google or like anywhere. So. Um. Instead, enjoy these pictures of laundromats. Don't ask why. (<- This is why)


We don't have a laundry machine in our house, but nor do I get to do the wash at a awesome laundromat, because our apartment building has one for us. Which is convenient, but not very magical.


But, oh joy! Our laundry room was getting redone, so for two weeks I got to do it at a laundromat! I sat in chairs like these and read Harry Potter four and drank English Teatime tea I brought from home in a thermos and had many transcendent moments.


Sadly, the laundromat near our house does not have green washing machines. (Or magic girl spirits who live inside them.)


Some laundromats are admittedly more drab and sad then others, but they all are very magical I think. It's the hypnotic whooshing of the clothes.


I do not know where this laundromat is, but it is obviously a very hip one. Ours is decidedly not hip.

The Corset: Being hot has never been so easy

So my mind was blank and I didn't know what to post about... but then it wandered and kept going and somehow landed on corsets. Hmm.


This one is simple and elegant and perfect.


This is my favorite, the color is amazing.


Very piratey/late Renaissance to early colonial. The collar is funny.


This is a Regency corset, all Jane Austen and stuff.


Very faerie princess. Obviously it's the flower's doing, but the happy pastels definitely add to the effect.

I feel so droopy and happy and floppy and sappy today, omg what the heck is wrong with me?? I want to recite Shakespeare sonnets and sing merry tunes and be relentlessly cheery and terribly forgiving and absurdly faithful in the plight of humanity. You'd think I've fallen in love.
